Sense of insecurity greatest in Gamlegården: "Residents a little more worried"
Every year, residents are asked to answer a questionnaire about their sense of security in Kristianstad municipality. Over the past year, the sense of insecurity has increased. But crime has not increased.
16 per cent of the respondents have been victims of common offences such as theft. Last year it was 15 per cent.
”The feeling of insecurity is increasing. The aim is to break the trend”Radovan Javurek (L)
In 2006, the figure was 26 per cent.
– But the feeling of insecurity is increasing. The aim is to break the trend; that it starts to decline. Hopefully, it will happen in 2021, says Radovan Javurek (L), Chairman of the Drug and Crime Prevention Council.
The city has been divided into six different geographical areas.
– We have three areas in Kristianstad that stand out with a slightly higher problem index. These are the town centre, Charlottesborg and Gamlegården, says Martin Thornell, Municipal police.
Gamlegården has the highest figure when it comes to the problem index.
– This year we have been very active in Gamlegården with Operation Rimfrost and there has been more police presence there, says Martin Thornell.
”They feel that the police are there and working and tackling the problems”Martin Thornell, Municipal police
An increased police presence may have contributed to a greater sense of insecurity and anxiety.
The police received the best marks for their action against problems in Gamlegården, while Södra and the town centre got bottom marks.
– In Gamlegården, the residents have a sense of insecurity, but they feel that the police are there and working and tackling the problems, says Thornell.
