Police theory: Gunman out to get three men at open-air restaurant

One minute past nine on Saturday evening the police received calls about shots being fired at Teaterbaren's restaurant in Tivoliparken.

At five past nine there are reports from witnesses of a masked man who escaped southwards on a bicycle in the direction of Finlandshusen.

– The police would very much like to get more information from witnesses. About someone who cycled fast southwards through the park, or if anyone saw a person throwing away a mask, said police spokesman Robert Loeffel on Monday.

So far the police have spoken to about thirty witnesses, including the three men who are thought to be the gunman's target.

– Our working hypothesis is that the shots were aimed at three men aged between 25 and 30 who were in the open-air restaurant, says Robert Loeffel.

– This is an extremely serious occurrence. To rush into a restaurant and shoot, without respect for the lives of others. Completely innocent people could have been hurt, there was an immediate risk, said Robert Loeffel.

The shots were fired from a charged weapon.

– We have secured evidence showing that there has been a shooting, says Robert Loeffel.

The gunman was a man in dark clothing with a balaclava which covered his face. At the moment investigations indicate that only one person was involved.

The case is classed as attempted murder and causing danger to others. On Monday forenoon no suspect had been arrested.

Teaterbarens restaurant was packed on Saturday evening. Meera Naima is the owner.

He says:

– We're all shocked. What happened is dreadful, I'm thankful that no-one was hurt.

Will you be open as planned?

– We hope we can open as planned on Wednesday. If we don't have time, we'll be closed until next week. We weren't going to be open at Midsummer in any case.
