IVO criticises SIS - home - children testify to violence and abuse
During the autumn IVO carried out an inspection of the SIS-home in Hässleholm in which they interviewed children and young people in the home as well as staff and those in charge. IVO also sent out enquiries to residents and supervisors.
One of the things in focus for the inspection was to examine security and safety in the home - and on that point IVO camre to the conclusion that there are weak points.
IVO's criticism is based on three reasons: information about violence and abuse, information that staff do not always treat the young people kindly, and that staffing in two of the home's sections is not designed to meet the needs of the young people.
This is information which has come out in enquiries IVO sent to all the children and young people, where they testify that the staff are sometimes insulting and threatening, and also that from time to time members of staff have groped residents or carried out other sexual acts.
Information also emerged from the survey that young people are said to have sold sex at the home and that alcohol and drugs have been used there.
None of these occurrences came up during IVO's discussions with the young people - so IVO points out that they are unable to confirm that the information in the enquiry is correct.
