It was Monday, the first day after the Christmas holidays, 10 January. The alarm about the deadly act of violence inside the school was raised at 9.14 am.

The 16-year-old had several knives with him. The prosecutor, Pernilla Tallinger, believes that the 16-year-old attacked a pupil first; he pointed a knife at him and plunged towards his head with it.

– He had to move backwards. It's just pure luck that he was not injured, she says.

Christian van Gils, a technology teacher, was stabbed in the leg and arm, but was released from hospital the same day. The 16-year-old also stabbed a classmate in the back and in the arm. The injuries were serious, but not life-threatening.

The injured pupil and several other pupils were able to take cover inside Kristianstadsbladet's editorial office. The newspaper’s editorial office is located in the same building as the high school.

”It would be distressing for adults to be detained for such a long time too. It has been especially difficult considering that he has been away from his family for so long.”
Björn Attnarsson, the 16-year-old's lawyer

The suspected boy is now being charged with three counts of attempted murder and two counts of unlawful threats against two other pupils at the school.

The allegation of attempted murder applies in part to the teacher who is said to have been stabbed twice and in part to the two pupils.

The suspected boy has been in custody for five months. His detention has been tough, says the 16-year-old's lawyer, Björn Attnarsson:

– It would be distressing for adults to be detained for such a long time too. It has been especially difficult considering that he has been away from his family for so long.

The principal of NTI high school, Dalila Adilagic, has previously described how the suspected 16-year-old was arrested. "We had evacuated the building for the police. There was nothing in the way”.

The 16-year-old has undergone a major forensic psychiatric evaluation. It has shown that he was not suffering from a severe psychiatric disorder at the time of the attack or while he was undergoing the evaluation.

The suspected 16-year-old boy was friends with the 15-year-old boy who was convicted of the school attack in Eslöv in August 2021. The 15-year-old and the 16-year-old are friends and they have been in contact with one another.

The two are said to have posted pictures of airsoft guns in the 16-year-old's class chat. The boys had also taken pictures of knives.

The trial regarding the knife attack at NTI High School is expected to last for five days.
