Open trade of drugs all over town

The trade of drugs takes place openly throughout Kristianstad. Around the clock. The police say the situation is serious. One text message and ten minutes later a quick handshake. This is how drugs and tablets are exchanged. One seller had 500 names in his contact book.

Buyers and sellers use text messages and encrypted apps to arrange meetings. The use, possession and sale of drugs is illegal in Sweden.

This year, the police have confiscated more drugs than during the whole of 2018. Many young people have a liberal attitude to drugs; they think that cannabis is not a drug.

According to the police, young people buy cannabis, amphetamine, cocaine and medicines like Tramadol (drug-classified tablets). Ecstasy is on the rise.

There are several local networks with men selling drugs. Delivery boys are young. The police have come across 13-year-olds. They ride bicycles, mopeds and motorcycles to get around easily, but also use cars.

– It is important to work against this problem. If we can deter one young person from trying drugs, it’s worth it, says Anders Olofsson, Head of Local Police in Kristianstad.
