Six-year-old boy died – run over by bus in village centre

A six-year-old boy was run over by a bus in Hjärsås on Thursday. He died of his injuries. The driver of the bus is now suspected of causing the boy's death, the police reported on Friday morning.

The accident occurred at 1:15 pm onThursday. Emergency services, police and ambulance were called to the scene at 13:45. The road through the village was closed off. A police helicopter landed in the village.

At 18:07 the police made a statement saying that the boy had died as a result of the accident. His family has been informed.

The bus driver, a man aged about 65, has been questioned by the police. He is now suspected of causing the boy's death.

An investigation will be carried out as to the cause of the accident.

– As far as I understand, the driver was unaware of the accident and drove away from the place. Instead our traffic control centre was contacted by the police. That is how we got to know about it, says Simon Sandberg, press spokesman at Bergkvarabuss.

He describes the driver, a man in his mid-sixties, as being experienced.

– He's hardly able to take in what happened, and of course he's in a state of shock.
