More times for vaccination released – and young people from 16 can be vaccinated

Vaccination against covid is progressing rapidly. Region Skåne has opened booking for people in Skåne aged 35-39. And today, Wednesday, 30-34-year-olds can also make an appointment.
And now Folkhälsomyndigheten says that all students in upper secondary schools can be vaccinated against covid-19.

The age-limit for covid vaccination will be reduced from 18 to 16, said education minister Anna Ekström (S) and director-general of Folkhälsomyndigheten Johan Carlson during a digital press conference about vaccine.

People born in 1991 or earlier can book a time now. Times are released successively. You can book your time via Region Skåne's homepage here.

”150 children and young adults have had to be treated in hospital,”
Johan Carlson, director-general of Folkhälsomyndigheten

People over 35 are also encouraged to book a time - and plan in their second dose six weeks later.

There is still a shortage of vaccine. So 'you should have both your doses of vaccine at the same place', Region Skåne writes in a press release.

Today, Wednesday, people aged 30 - 34 can start to book a time for vaccination. After that everyone aged 16 and over will be offered the vaccine.

Folkhälsomyndigheten has lowered the age limit from 18 to 16 years old.

– We have three reasons for vaccinating young people. Firstly, the vaccine protects the individual from illness. 150 children and young adults have had to be treated in hospital, says Johan Carlson, director-general of Folkhälsomyndigheten at a meeting with the press.

”Studies have shown that people aged 16 or 17 can develop serious symptoms”

— Secondly it reduces the risk of infection among young people. Thirdly it reduces the spread of infection among other groups in the community.

A number of countries have already vaccinated young people.

– Studies have shown that people aged 16 or 17 can develop serious symptoms, says Johan Carlson.

– We are going to run campaigns directed towards parents and young people in areas where interest for the vaccine has not been so high, he says.

And in the autumn pupils will be taught in school again.
