Mörck welcomed Zatari from Syria with open arms - great doubles success
Throughout the years the Mörcks in Vä have had connections with tennis in general and WÄ TK in particular.
Father Fredrik has been chairman of the tennis club and his son Felix has been a player, trainer, instructor and member of the committee.
But when Christianstad Badmintonklubb arranged the Christianstad Arena Cup for the tenth year in succession both father Fredrik and sons Felix and Fabian were on the list of players.
Felix Mörck reached the quarter-finals of the men's singles B, a class that was won by his clubmate Zaher Zatari. He too is worth a few lines, to say the least. Zatari came to Sweden in 2015, landed with the Mörcks in Vä , and there and then a deep friendship developed between Felix and Zaher.
– I lived with the Mörcks for nine months and I owe them my gratitud for a lot, says Zaher.
In Syria he played badminton at international level when he was young and he continued to play when he came to Sweden-
– But then corona came along and I got a new job where I worked shifts, so my badminton suffered.
But now Zaher has a new timetable, and his favourite sport is once again a big part of his life.
– This competition (Christianstad Arena Cup) is my first for three years.
And you went straight in and won the singles?
– Yes, I was quite impressed myself, I must say. It went really well.
In the weeks before the competition Felix had suggested that he and Zaher should play doubles together and here too it was a resounding success for the home club. Mörck and Zatari had no trouble in winning their first match,, and in the quarter-final they beat the second-seeded pair (Klas Fältskog and Per-Åke Johansson) by 2 sets to 1.
And so Zaher Zatari rounded off his comeback - after a break of three years - with two titles in the tournament, 11 - 0 in matches (with one walkover)and 20 - 1 in sets.
No wonder he was impressed by his own performance ..
