The term started on Tuesday for the F-3 school in Knislinge. On Thursday, many pupils stayed at home with a stomach bug or got an acute stomach bug during the day.

On Friday, the school decided to allow siblings of sick pupils to stay at home.

Students who have been ill at home must be without symptoms (vomiting/diarrhoea) for 48 hours before returning to school.

On Friday, 70 out of a total of 215-220 pupils at the school were at home, almost one-third.

– I have never seen anything like this with so many sick children at the same time, says Catharina Rooth, Head teacher at Västerskolan.

She has been working in the school world since 1982.

On Friday, the staff had not been affected. However, the incubation period for winter vomiting bug is up to 48 hours.

The school has provided information on the school's Facebook page.

– We do not normally do this. But here we felt it was needed, says Rooth.
