Residents in Knislinge may now be able to draw a sigh of relief. Many of them have been worried by all the fires in the village. To begin with there were not many clues to follow, but now a young man has been remanded in custody charged with causing the fires.

– He has admitted himself that he has done some stupid things, says district prosecutor Christofer Ramkvist.

He was remanded in custody at Kristianstad district court on Wednesday.

The man, in his 20s, was arrested at the weekend. Now he has been remanded in custody, charged on probable grounds (the more serious degree of suspicion) with arson at Åstringegården in Knislinge in August and of setting fire to the station building in Knislinge a month later.

At the same time there were car fires in three different places in the centre of Knislinge.

He has been detained because there is a risk that he might commit more crimes and because arson is a crime punishable by a prison sentence of at least two years.

The man will remain in custody until the trial, which will soon take place. Investigations are complete. The custody order applies in the first instance until 1st December.

The man is suspected of two cases of arson and three of causing serious damage.
