University to move to the centre of Kristianstad
– It is the best option for the university to move forward; to move to the city centre, says Björn Brorström, Chairman of the University Board.
At 10.30 am on Thursday morning, Björn Brorström, Chairman of the University Board, announced that Kristianstad University is moving to the Lokstallet plot.
– The decision made by the Board is to move from a declaration of intent to begin negotiations and reach an agreement to move to the plot on Lokstallet 1, says Björn Broström and continues:
– It is the best option for the university to move forward; to move to the city centre.
Björn Brorström believes that a more central location will make the university impossible to miss – for everyone.
- We believe that it is positive for the university to be located in the city centre; I think Kristianstad residents are convinced that the university does not exist in everyday life – now it will be there. It will be impossible to miss it, so I think this will be very positive.
At the same time, Björn Brorström explains that they haven't completely let the idea of using the Tivoli bath site go.
– It could be part of the campus, but this is something we dream about. I see it as an opportunity to have public premises there, which are completely open to Kristianstad residents. There are some dreams and visions regarding this, but the focus is on Lokalstallet 1. But then we allow ourselves to dream, he says.
When will the new university be ready?
– It has been said that it will be ready sometime around 2028–2029, that is the hope, beyond that, we don’t know.
