Sofyan Aswad: Sofyan Aswad: "Daring to make mistakes – a learning process"
Making mistakes is a natural part of learning. But for many of us, it's a fear that stops us from taking that step and exploring new things. I myself have felt this fear and it has stopped me from daring to try new things, especially as a journalist.
Writing has always been a passion of mine, but it has also been a source of frustration. Every time I try to write something new, the voice in my head says "It won't be good" or "You're not good enough to write this". I know I am not alone in this experience, but it is still a feeling that can become an obstacle in a person’s development.
”It was a learning process that I never would have experienced if I had not dared to make mistakes.”Sofyan Aswad
I remember when I was little and learned to ride a bike for the first time. I was afraid of falling and hurting myself, but my parents encouraged me to keep trying. I made mistakes and I fell many times, but every time I fell – I learned something new. I learned how to balance, to pedal and to stop. Finally, I could ride my bike without having to think about what I was doing. It was a learning process that I never would have experienced if I had not dared to make mistakes.
In the same way, this also applies in our adult lives. We learn by making mistakes and daring to take risks. It can be scary to step into the unknown, but it is only by doing so that we can grow. And if we fail? It’s okay. It is part of the process of learning and growing.
Daring to make mistakes is also about daring to be vulnerable. We may be afraid to show our vulnerability and our flaws, but it is precisely by showing them that we can help ourselves and others how to learn and grow. When we show our vulnerability, we also show that we are human and that we are not perfect.
”And who knows, we might find something amazing along the way that we would otherwise never have discovered.”Sofyan Aswad
I believe it is important that we learn to embrace our fear of failure and that we dare to make mistakes. It is part of learning and growing as a person. We also need to support and encourage each other to dare to take risks and to dare to make mistakes. We can create a culture where it is okay to fail and where we support each other in our learning processes.
I myself have felt the fear of failure and making mistakes. But I have also experienced how it has helped me to grow and develop. Daring to make mistakes has given me the courage to try new things and to challenge myself. And it has also allowed me to realise that I don't need to be perfect to be happy and achieve my goals.
We have to dare to explore our limits and challenge ourselves to reach our full potential. And who knows, we might find something amazing along the way that we would otherwise never have discovered.
