The Swedish Democrats in Skåne want the Public Transport Committee to introduce a requirement for face masks for anyone travelling by bus and train, both employees and commuters. The requirement applies to everyone over the age of 12 within Region Skåne.

”The question of face masks is not dead”
Johan Carlsson, Director-General of the Public Health Agency of Sweden

– The spread of infection has started to increase in Skåne. We, therefore, need a crackdown. Face masks are not just about protecting yourself but preventing the infection from spreading further, says Johan Wifralius (SD), Regional Councillor.

Can't face masks provide a false sense of security?

- This is an issue that we have considered. Therefore, it’s also important to provide information about continuing to keep a distance to reduce the spread of infection, says Johan Wifralius.

The Public Health Agency of Sweden is working to develop guidelines for the use of face masks.

– The question of face masks is not dead but is being worked on intensely, says Johan Carlson, Director General of the Public Health Agency of Sweden.

He thinks that introducing a general recommendation to use face masks on trains and buses is not good.

This would give transport companies the signal that they can fill trains and buses with people.

– Then the situation will get worse, says Johan Carlsson.
