Region Skåne: ”We can see the beginning of the end”

– We can see the beginning of the end of the pandemic this time round - for everyone who has had three doses of vaccine, says regional director Alf Jönsson.

– It's most likely that Sweden will soon view covid-19 in the same way as Denmark or Norway, said Alf Jönsson at a press conference on Wednesday.

On Tuesday eight patients with diagnosed covid-19 were in intensive care and there were 253 in-patients in hospitals in Skåne.

– Around 65 per cent of the in-patients are there because of covid-19.The other 45 per cent are there for other reasons, but have shown positive in a covid test, says Pia Lundbom, health-care director.

At the same time the infection is widespread in Skåne. Last week more than 31,000 new cases were registered.

– It's just the top of the iceberg. It is mostly people with symptoms who have been tested, says Eva Melander, specialist doctor in infection control.
