Record number of infections among the elderly - highest since the start of the pandemic
On Tuesday there were 39 confirmed cases of infection in the geriatric care sector in Hässleholm municipality. That is the highest number since testing was introduced in the spring of 2020, as is shown in an overview by Kb NSk of statistics in the municipality.
– It's probably because the new variant spreads much faster. But the people who are infected are not particularly ill any more, Birgitta Ljungbeck, Hässleholm municipality's nurse with responsibility for medical questions, tells us.
The previous highest number, from February 2022, was 36 cases. Included in that number are persons who were living at a care home because of different kinds of handicap. 21 of the cases at that time were in a care home.
– A lot of them are in Björkhaga in Sösdala, where we are also expecting the figure to rise because we have tested more people and are waiting for the results or we are going to test more, we are told by Michell Grönlund, communicator at the welfare department.
All members of staff still wear face-masks in all situations involving close contact with clients.
With patients who have a confirmed infection both surgical masks and visors are used.
– Of course we're hoping that the spread of infection dies down as soon as possible, Michell Grönlund emphasises.
