The person was taken to hospital but died as a result of the injuries. The person has not been identified yet.

The fire itself did not spread from the toilet. The emergency services checked the roof, attic and ventilated smoke out of the apartment.

The police do not suspect a crime but have classified the incident as a homicide. This will allow them to investigate the fire carefully. There is no suspicion of a crime. On Wednesday the scene was cordoned off for a forensic investigation.

– We have a theory about how the fire started, but will now investigate the scene, says Jöhn Sjöblom, Internal Officer with the police in Kristianstad.
