The municipality’s application for camera surveillance was rejected by the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection (Integritetsmyndigheten). They believe that too little is happening.

He says that there is actually a lot happening at the bus station, but these are things that they’re unable to “prove”.

– The fact that camera surveillance can be useful was demonstrated with the recent graffiti in the village, says Åberg.

It was thanks to the hardware store's camera that we were able to catch those who had graffitied in about a dozen places in the village.

But the police have agreed to the municipalities request to place security guards in certain areas in Broby, such as the bus station and the Municipal Hall.

– We want to be able to use security guards when needed. If, for example, we become aware that something is going on or that there is an increased risk that something will happen, says Commune Director Jonas Rydberg.

He is very pleased with the police’s decision. The municipality already has guards who drive around in the area.

Patric Åberg welcomes the police's decision on security guards.

– They can step in and act in a way that guards are not allowed to. But at the same time, they are doing what the police are supposed to do. The difference is that we have to pay, says Åberg.
