New rules for everyone who applies for a residence permit

On 20th July 2021 the Swedish law concerning foreign citizens will be changed. Then all types of residence permit will have a time limit. If you have applied for a residence permit and have not received it before 20th July you will be affected by the new rules.

The only people who can get a permanent residence permit the first time they apply are quota refugees. Most people will have to apply at least once for an extension of their permit before they can apply for a permanent residence permit.

The conditions are that you must have had a temporary residence permit for at least three years before you can apply for permanent residency, adults must be self-supporting and they must live an orderly life (people over 15 may be refused a permit if they have committed any crime)
