New enquiry on site for university
The question of the university's wish to relocate to Kristianstad town centre has been under discussion for several years. The idea was to build the new school on the site of Tivolibadet, but the municipality finally turned down the suggestion. The building would be too big.
In February 2021 the municipality offered an alternative, the railway junction lot at Barbacka. A working group with representatives from both sides was also formed. But the university thought the municipality did not show enough interest in the matter.
In March this year it was announced that Högskolan Kristianstad (Kristianstad University) is investigating other places to build, including in Hässleholm.
The lot at the railway junction is not a good alternative, it has been shown. There are many problems, one of which is that an embankment against flooding must be built.
On 8th April leaders for the university and Kristianstad municipality held a meeting. According to the press release the parties are in agreement that a new localisation enquiry should be made. This is to be ready before the summer.
According to our information the leaders of the uhniversity are interested in ”Vilan's riverbank”, on the opposite side of Helgeå as seen from Finlandshuset.
The marshalling yard lot, where the new legal centre is under construction, is also a possible alternative.
