New district heating plant proposed – investment of 70 million
The municipal energy company is proposing the investment in a biofuel district heating plant, and the matter will be raised with the Municipal Board on Tuesday. The heating plant will replace fossil fuels during the heating season, and this gives the company the opportunity to retain a share of the heat production for itself.
The planned facilities are expected to cover 50 per cent of the total energy demand in the grid during a year and can contribute 40 per cent of the grid's total power demand when it is coldest.
The preliminary study carried out shows that it will cost between 65 and 75 million crowns to build. It takes three to three and a half years to build such a facility. The payback time for the investment is ten to twelve years.
