Municipality buys problem property – for demolition
The municipality's strategy for local development has been the same for a number of years.
– We work on eliminating blots on the town landscape and properties that have caused problems for a long time, says Patric Åberg (M), chairman of the municipal executive board.
”Then it will be pulled down, to make room for something new”Patric Åberg (M)
A few years ago there was a shoe-shop in the property, and later a pizzeria and flats. For the past few years the property has been a cause of concern in the town.
It was there the National Bomb Squad disarmed a bomb on 17th January. It was there too that a flag similar to the IS flag decorated the gable not long ago, something that the municipality reported to the police as incitement to racial hatred.
The municipality has estimated the value of the property:
– And now we've reached an agreement with the owner as to buying it, says Åberg.
But the municipality wants the present owner to give notice to the tenants and see to it that the building is empty by 1st June.
– Then it will be pulled down, to make room for something new, says Åberg.
The building is in poor condition, and there are problems with traffic at the junction.
– Maybe we can do something about that now, says Åberg.
