Mostly young people and unvaccinated who are infected

– If we are to relax restrictions, people must keep on observing the restrictions that are in force - and they must be vaccinated, says Karin Tegmark Wisell, deputy director-general at Folkhälsomyndigheten, at Thursday's press conference.

– We need to reach a higher number in most groups in the community, she says about the number of vaccinations.

70 per cent of all those over 18 in Skåne are now fully vaccinated against covid-19. 78.8 have had their first dose. And the second dose is important to obtain the maximum effect, Folkhälsomyndigheten emphasises.

Now it is a question of reaching the young people - among 16 - 17-year-olds in Skåne only 45 per cent have had their first injection so far.

Of the patients admitted to intensive care units in Skåne in August, none had been vaccinated at all. The patients are between 30 and 70. In other words, they have had the opportunity to be vaccinated with at least one dose.

– This shows clearly how important it is for everyone to be vaccinated. It is the best insurance against becoming seriously ill with covid-19 and having to have hospital treatment, says Pia Lundbom, director of health care at Region Skåne in an earlier press release.
