Man suspected of bomb threat sentenced to prison
On June 10th, a 19-year-old man boarded one of the buses at Central Station. He had threatened that there was a bomb on board.
The bus drove on to Hästtorget. The police and the National Bomb Squad were called there.
– I took the threat seriously. I thought that there was a bomb on the bus, the bus driver said during questioning.
The 19-year-old was arrested nearby. He was charged on suspicion of several crimes, including death threats against security guards and police.
The trial began five weeks ago. The District Court decided that the man should undergo a forensic psychiatric examination.
On Monday, Kristianstad District Court decided that the 19-year-old should be sentenced to prison. He was not seriously mentally ill when he committed the crimes.
– We think that juvenile detention with a contract would be best. This minimises the risk of him having a relapse. If prison time is the only possibility then a shorter sentence would be reasonable, says defence lawyer Andreas Simon.
The suspect has been in custody for nine weeks.
