Man arrested on suspicion of child sexual abuse

The suspected paedophile, a man in his 50s, has worked as a childcare worker for four years. The suspected sexual abuse is said to have taken place at a municipal preschool in Kristianstad last week.
The man has worked as a childcare worker since 2018.
– We are going to conduct several interviews. We will also be using forensic evidence, says Helena Fredriksson, Prosecutor.

The man is suspected of both crimes on probable cause – that is, the higher degree of suspicion. The man has admitted to possessing child pornography. However, he denies raping children.

According to information obtained by Kb/NSk, the suspected paedophile has been employed as a childcare worker since 2018. Among other things, he has worked in staffing.

The suspicion is that the abuse, which is being classified as child rape, took place in Kristianstad sometime last week.

– He was remanded in custody by the District Court for one instance of child rape and child pornography offences, says Helena Fredriksson, Prosecutor.

The minimum penalty for child rape is two years' imprisonment. The District Court has therefore detained the man.

The man lives in Kristianstad municipality. He has worked and had training practice at several preschools. He had planned to become a youth worker - but instead he started a course to become a preschool teacher. But he has not finished the course. The man has also worked at one of Sweden's largest amusement parks – Liseberg.

Kenth Olsson, the Former Head of Education, has been called in to deal with the situation as an emergency. He was there in 2015 when a childcare worker was arrested and later convicted of sexual abuse. At that time, the abuse concerned about 20 children at several preschools in the municipality. And that man had also worked in staffing.

Right now, the administration is working to summarise all the information that staff, parents and the general public need. It will be posted on the municipality's website.

They will also map where the man has worked.

– We need to be completely sure of where he has worked. As soon as we are done, we will share the information publicly, says Kenth Olsson.
