Lorry collided with several cars – two dead
Shortly before 5 pm police, ambulance and emergency services received information about a lorry which was being driven unsteadily on Road 117 between Bjärnum and Vankiva.
Later the police were told that a lorry had collided with a number of cars near Vankiva,in the direction of Hässleholm.
– It has collided head-on with at least one car, but there may be more, said police spokesperson Sara Andersson at 5:45.
At 7 pm the police said that a lorry and three private cars were involved in the accident. After the collisions the lorry is reported to have landed in the ditch.
At 9:30 the police said that three people had been taken to hospital by ambulance, and there was still no information about their injuries.
The lorry-driver, a man in his 40's, suffered no physical injuries, however.
The police are checking up to see if the lorry that caused the accident is the same one as was reported earlier for driving unsteadily.
Shortly before midnight the police reported that a man and a woman in their 60's had died as a result of the accident.
Relatives have been informed of the deaths.
The lorry-driver is suspected of grossly causing the deaths of others, and of gross drunken driving, and has been arrested by the police.
