Large increase: 55 new deaths in Skåne

Region Skåne will only report the number of deaths twice a week, on Mondays and Wednesdays.

On Wednesday, Region Skåne announced that 445 people with covid-19 have now died - which is 55 more than on Tuesday when there were 390.

Region Skåne says that the large increase is because deaths from two weeks ago are just being reported now.

The reason is that it has been difficult to get exact figures on the number of patients who have died outside of hospitals; they are sometimes reported in "blocks".

"From now on, we will report everyone - both deceased in hospital and deceased outside the hospital - twice a week. This way, the reporting will be more consistent and more accurate", writes Johan Vestergren, from Region Skåne's press office in an email to Kristianstadsbladet.

The number of deaths includes people who carry the coronavirus and die within 30 days of the test result, regardless of the cause of death.

Region Skåne is currently lacking statistics regarding the number of deaths per day after 22nd November.
