Kristianstad says no to electric kick scooters
Manufacturers of electric kick scooters have been in touch with municipalities in Skåne. They want to know if there is an interest in having electric kick scooters for hire. Svenska Dagbladet was first to report this.
Kristianstad municipality's technical section said no.
”There can be collisions, something we want to avoid”Ulrika Åkesson, head of the technical section
– What we said is that we have doubts about renting out electric kick scooters at present because of the problems of order there are in the bigger towns, says Ulrika Åkesson, head of the technical section.
There is some concern that people living in Kristianstad may find it difficult to get around, or risk being hurt, if there are electric scooters lying about all over the place.
– We're afraid there may be the same problems here as in the bigger towns. We have put in a lot of work to make the town centre accessible to the people who live here. Road safety can also be affected. There can be collisions, something we want to avoid, says Ulrika Åkesson.
In a research report from Folksam it says the number of accidents involving electric kick scooters is on the increase. Most happen at night or at weekends.
Neither Hässleholm, Östra Göinge nor Bromölla have been asked if they would be prepared to allow electric kick scooters to be rented out. But Veronica Haagen, a traffic engineer with Hässleholm municipality, thinks they can pop up all the same.
– I used to work in Lund. We were never asked there, the firms just set out bikes.
