Infection rate rises in Skåne – ”No plans for regional restrictions”
Last week 26 per cent more new cases of infection in Skåne were reported than the week before – 3186 persons, says infectious diseases specialist Eva Melander. In do-it-yourself tests about eight per cent show positive.
Since week 42 medical care in Skåne has felt an increased pressure, but not on the same scale as before there was a vaccine.
– The vaccine prevents serious illness, says Eva Melander.
There are 25 confirmed cases of the omikron mutation in Skåne. In a few cases there are no known connections to another country.
In Skåne 71 covid-19 patients are being cared for in hospital, eight in an intensive care unit. Influensa is also circulating in the community, which adds to the pressure on the health services.
In other EU countries, for example Italy, there are regional restrictions to try to get to grips with the spread of the illness. On whether there are any plans for regional restrictions in Skåne, representanter for region Skåne are in agreement.
– There are no such plans. We want to pace nationally and since the situation is similar throughout the nation, there is no reason. Should Skåne stick out in any way we might possibly have that conversation, but we are definitely not there today, says Eva Melander.
