Hunter used camera instead of gun – saw eight wolves

Two hunters were out not far from Östra Sönnarslöv hunting fallow deer and wild boar when they had an experience to send their blood-pressure rocketing. Magnus Hellström is quite sure of what he saw. There are at least eight wolves in the territory.

They had shot one fallow deer and decided to stay on for a spell in their hides as darkness fell to see if any wild boar, which are active when it is dark, would show up.

– My pal wrote that boar were approaching in the wood. I took out my thermocamera and saw at once that it wasn't a boar, it was a dog, says Magnus Hellström.

But the dog was a wolf! When Magnus shifted focus 60 metres to the place where he had shot the deer, he got his next shock.

– Seven wolves were standing there, and I hadn't seen or heard them until then. I've got a short film sequence, just a couple of minutes. You can see quite clearly that they are wolves. Two of them are a good bit bigger than the others. I can swear to it that there were eight wolves.

Now Magnus wasn't so keen to go and fetch the deer he had shot.

– I might manage to deal with one wolf, but eight aren't to be taken lightly.
