Huge fire in apartment – dog and cat rescued
A dog and a cat were rescued from a fire in an apartment on Wednesday.

SOS received a call about a fire on Vångavägen in Näsby at 15.34. According to the caller, there was smoke coming from an apartment out to the stairways. A dog was also heard barking.

– When we arrived, the fire in the apartment was fully developed. We went in with smokejumpers, says Jörgen Elvstrand from the emergency services in Kristianstad.

– We didn’t know if anybody was in there. And we had received information that there was a dog barking.
– We found a dog and a cat alive, but there were no people in the apartment.

The fire in the apartment was extinguished, but it had spread through a window and up to the roof. Firefighters had to break through the roof to put the fire out.
The cause of the fire is unclear.
