Göingeskolan to lead pilot study in preventing honour repression
Behind the project is the organisation FreeZoneSweden, which works to prevent honour-related violence and repression.
– They got in touch with me and asked if we would like to be a pilot school. We'll learn how to notice the subtle signals, says Erik Andersson, rector of Göingeskolan.
The project will last for about a year. Everyone on the staff will get training, which includes lectures.
The big wave of immigration from abroad since 2014 has affected the whole community, including the nine-year compulsory school in Östra Göinge (from 13 per cent with a non-Swedish background in 2013 to 37 per cent in 2019).
– Statistics point to there being honour repression at Göingeskolan. Now we'll learn how we can help the pupils. See things from their perspective, in accordance with the International Convention on Children's Rights, says Erik Andersson.
Municipal commissioner Patric Åberg (M) says:.
– There is probably honour repression in all the schools in Östra Göinge, not just in secondary schools. It would be naive to say anything else. It's a general problem in the community.
