Galleria Boulevard may be the ugliest building in Sweden
The competition, to choose the ugliest building in Sweden, is organised by the popular movement Arkitektupproret (The Architects’ Revolt). Private Citizens have been allowed to make nominations.
Two buildings in Kristianstad reached the top of the list for Skåne’s smaller Towns (Malmö, Lund and Helsingborg are not taking part in the competition). The Town Hall, on Stora Torg, is also in the final.
– We uphold the ideal to build more attractive buildings, said Sigvald Freylander from Arkitektupproret when the competition started in the summer.
In the local final heat, Galleria Boulevard got 206 votes and was the runaway winner. 100 buildings from all over the country are in the final, and has the chance to gain the title of Ugliest in Sweden.
In Hässleholm the high-rise building Pärlan has reached the final.
The winner will, to begin with, be given a suggestion as to how the building can be made to look more attractive.
In the first place the winner will be given a suggestion as to how the building can be made more attractive. Secondly Arkitektupproret hopes to be able to raise enough money to demolish the winning building.
But there are some beautiful buildings in Kristianstad too. In the spring Hotell Christian IV was voted Sweden's 26th most attractive building in a survey from Arkitektupproret.
