Free travel in the whole of Skåne for all young people – around the clock, all year round

All year round. Around the clock. From 1 August.
Young people aged 13-18 in Östra Göinge will be able to travel for free with Skånetrafiken.
For the municipality, it will be cheaper than it currently is.

The tickets are called the "Youth Ticket” (Ungdomsbiljett). Four municipalities in Skåne already have it in place (Simrishamn, Svedala, Trelleborg and Ystad).

– A great offer for rural municipalities, says Tommy Johansson, Investigator at Östra Göinge municipality.

”We get a better offer at a lower cost”

Since 2018, pupils in primary education in grades 7–9 and upper secondary school have had a School Card (Skolkort). They can travel throughout Skåne during weekdays, while school is open.

At that time, there was no Youth Ticket, but there is now. And it’s even better for young people, guardians and the municipality.

”We want all young people to be able to travel and make their way to activities and other places”, says Patric Åberg (M), Chairman of the Municipal Executive Committee

With the Youth Ticket, young people in Östra Göinge can travel on all of Skånetrafiken's routes, around the clock, all year round.

This includes all trains and buses, local transport operated by taxi and the ferry between Landskrona and Ven.

School Cards cost Östra Göinge municipality approximately 7.5 million crowns a year.

The Youth Ticket will cost the municipality approximately 6.2 million crowns a year.

– So, we get a better offer at a lower cost, says Tommy Johansson.

The formal decision regarding the Youth Ticket from 1 August will be made by the politicians in the Municipal Council on 25 May.

– This is yet another investment that we are making for young people in Östra Göinge. We want all young people to be able to travel and make their way to activities and other places – irrespective of their parents’ ability to provide a bus pass, says Patric Åberg (M), Chairman of the Municipal Executive Committee, on the municipality's website.
