Faeces in the water at three bathing places – municipality advises against bathing
The municipality carried out tests at the end of last week at a number of bathing places in the municipality. They showed that at three places the water had an increased content of what is known as intestinal enterococci, a type of bacteria found in the intestines.
This shows that the water contains excrement from humans or animals. The bathing places affected are at Breanäs, the Tydingesjö camping area and Gummarp.
The results mean that the water at these bathing places is unfit for bathing. So the municipality advises against swimming there.
The bacteria can have got into the water from sewage, natural fertiliser or bird droppings. There is also a risk that there may be other microorganisms in the water, so that bathers who swallow the water can develop stomach pains or diarrhoea, or sometimes even vomiting.
