Drones will create security
The police have used drones to monitor vulnerable areas, places where crime has a major impact on society.
”The drone can be in the air at all hours, both during daytime and at night”Magnus Valtersson, Group Manager for the Kristianstad police area.
The aim is to fight crime and increase security.
– The drone can be in the air at all hours, both during daytime and at night. It gives us extra eyes from the sky where we can follow what is happening, says Magnus Valtersson, Group Manager for the Kristianstad police area.
In Gamlegården, the area between Tvedegårdsvägen and Bataljonsvägen is being monitored by drones.
The police have put flyers up to inform the residents and also posted information on their website.
In Charlottesborg, the area between Hasselvägen and Slättängsvägen is being monitored.
– We have also used drone surveillance in those areas in spring. It creates greater security in society, says Magnus Valtersson.
In April last year, the police were on the look-out for drug dealers in Charlottesborg. A suspicious vehicle was seen from the air. Police managed to arrest a 20-year-old man who had been hiding drugs.
This week, the drones will mainly be used to prevent crime.
– Drones can also be used when people have been reported missing, to search the terrain over large areas, says Magnus Valtersson.
Surveillance may only take place in a public place. The police do not have the right to film inside residences.
Drone surveillance will take place from 30th September to 31st October.
