District Court: The evidence against the 21-year-old is compelling
On Friday, the District Court announced its decision. The District Court writes that there is compelling evidence that the 21-year-old defendant has murdered Emilia Lundberg.
”We’re disappointed. And also surprised actually”Melka Kjellberg, defence lawyer
According to the decision, the man must remain in custody. He will undergo a forensic psychiatric examination. It will determine whether the 21-year-old should be sent for psychiatric care or sentenced to prison.
The examination takes about a month.
The 21-year-old has always denied that he murdered Emilia. His defence lawyer Melka Kjellberg tells Kristianstadsbladet that the District Court's decision came as a disappointment.
– Of course, we’re disappointed. And also surprised actually, she says.
Melka Kjellberg believes that there is nothing that connects her client to the murder of Emilia Lundberg.
”We will appeal this to the Court of Appeal”Melka Kjellberg, defence lawyer
– Now, needless to say, we can suspect that he will be convicted. We will appeal this to the Court of Appeal, says Melka Kjellberg.
Melka Kjellberg does not believe that the 21-year-old is sick.
– I know that he was feeling very sick in December last year. But as he said himself during the trial, he is fine now. He is very stable and has good medicine for his ADHD.
The 21-year-old was arrested at the beginning of December last year. He has been in custody for about a year.
