CSK closes covid-unit – ”Wonderful”

At the end of last week CSK closed its temporary covid unit.
– It's wonderful that at last we have so few patients who need to be cared for in hospital, says John Cosmo, hospital manager. But if we are to avoid a new wave of infection in the autumn, it all depends on the younger age-groups getting vaccinated.

Last week the hospital closed the temporary covid unit that was opened in autumn. At that time pressure on the infectious disease wards was too great.

At most the hospital had 100 beds for covid-19 patients. Now they are being cared for in the infectious diseases unit and in intensive care.

A gym at CSK was used as a Covid-19 ward. Now it is no longer needed. Since the national day, 6th June, the number of new cases has dropped by more than half. On 14th June there were 46 new covid cases in the previous 24 hours.

The need for covid care has decreased. On Monday there were seven patients with covid-19 being treated at CSK., two weeks ago the figure was 16.

”I know they feel proud to have managed this”
Johan Cosmo, hospital manager

Hospital manager John Cosmo says:

– This means that in the first place our staff can have their holidays during the summer. And that after the summer we can reduce the queue of patients who have had to wait for their treatment because of covid-19.

Now 35- to 39-year-olds in Skåne can book a time.

Staff who have worked on the covid wards – what do they say?

– I've thanked them for all they have done. I know they feel proud to have managed this. And happy to be able to go back to the patients they are trained to take care of, says John Cosmo.

As from Tuesday and Wednesday more times for vaccination will be released. And now people in Skåne aged between 35 and 39 can book a time.
