Criticism: Skåne's vaccine plan disregards chronic illnesses
Skåne's vaccination plan follows the model created by the Swedish Public Health Agency, FHM.The plan is now in phase 2. But because of a shortage of vaccine it has been necessary to make priorities within the group. Now only older people or those who have had transplants or who are on dialysis are being vaccinated.
The aim is also to vaccinate older people first. This causes irritation among younger pensioners who have serious illnesses.
– I don't want it to sound as though I'm speaking in my own interest, but I would like to have a discussion about the principles, since in my opinion FHM and Smittskydd Skåne are not listening to the medical profession, says Anders Zackrés, aged 72, from Charlottesborg.
He himself has had several coronary thromboses and is now receiving chemotherapy for a tumour. But he is under 76, so he has not received any vaccine yet.
”Age is the most prominent risk factor for serious illness”Per Hagstam, vaccine co-ordinator
Zackrés thinks doctors should have more to say about who gets the vaccine.
– They're the ones who have the overall responsibility for their patients.
Per Hagstam, one of the vaccine co-ordinators in Skåne, says:
– We are following FHM's order of priority. In phase 2 the first priority is people aged 65 and above. Within this group the oldest will be vaccinated first. This is because old age is the most prominent risk factor for serious illness.
