The increase is happening in all age groups, but mostly in the group 19-49 years. The number of people infected in the over-70s group is few, so far.

– We have a serious situation with the infection spreading throughout society. We need to slow down the development together, says Infection Control Doctor Eva Melander in a press release.

One week ago, more than 70 people from Skåne became ill per day with covid-19.

On Friday, it had risen to 169 according to Region Skåne.

The serious situation means that Region Skåne is encouraging people in Skåne not to meet people they usually meet before the autumn break and Halloween and to refrain from parties and gatherings.

– This year we simply have to give "trick or treat" a miss on Halloween. Otherwise there is a risk that it will be "trick or virus", says Eva Melander.

In recent days, the number of people being admitted to hospital has increased. Now 30 people are being treated in hospitals in Skåne. At the same time, the spread of infection in nursing homes has increased. About 15 investigations about the spread of infection are currently ongoing in Skåne.
