Completely new district with 700 homes to be built following the demolition of Bong
In the area where Bong’s premises were previously located, a new district with 700 to 1,000 homes are expected to be gradually built in the coming years.
The first phase is planned to be completed by 2026 with Bröderna Persson as the property owner and Kristianstad municipality as the land owner. But the building plan for Yllefabriken, which needs to be finished before the next step in the project can take place, has been delayed by a year.
– The intention was that we would already have a building plan finished, which is what we had hoped for. However, we still don’t have a building plan ready, but the hope is that it will be finished before the end of the year, says Erik Lunderup, Head of Property Development and Management at Byggnads AB Bröderna Persson.
What are your thoughts with regard to building housing now?
– The situation looked different when we started with the building plan and we had no idea about the recession that we are currently in. Based on purely commercial logic, it is not the best time to build housing, especially not now when there is already so much housing being built in Kristianstad.
It remains unclear when the area will be complete, says Malin Bergkvist who is a Communications Strategist at Kristianstad municipality.
– It is probably 10 years in the future, but now I am guessing and that is because I know that things take a long time.
