Bonfires on Valborg's Eve to celebrate spring
On Valborg's Eve, 30th April, we light bonfires. We sing that winter has gone away and that spring has returned.

On the last day of April we welcome light and spring. The tradition stems from a pre-Christian celebration in Germany. Later it was renamed after St. Valborg.
After ”spring-cleaning” in the woods and the countryside branches and twigs are burned – burn the old to make room for the new.
In pre-Christian times in the north an older celebration was observed – the living and the dead could communicate with one another that night.
