”A lot of people come here and want to talk about old memories”Paulina Norup, chairman of the scouts
Micael Svensson, duty officer at the emergency service, tells us on Sunday morning that a large part of Åstringagården has been saved.
– One building has burned down to the ground. The farm is built in the shape of a T, and it is the ”leg” that has burnt. But that part was already on fire when we arrived.
No activities were reported from the farm late on Saturday evening, and no-one has come to harm.
The police have made a report on damage by fire. The site of the fire has been cordoned off, a technical examination will be made.
Åstringagården dates back to the 17th century. Parts of it are said to be completely original. It is listed as a historic building.
Midsummer celebrations have been arranged here for many years. During the night between Saturday and Sunday a number of people are said to have come to the site of the fire.
Åstringagården is owned by the municiåality, but is rented by SMU Scouterna in Knislinge.
– We sometimes have scouting activities there, and the local church. for example we have services there, says Paulina Norup, chairman of the scouts.
She thinks the emergency services did a fantastic job in saving large parts of the building.
It is up to the municipality to decide whether the farm is to be rebuilt or not.
– But I hope it will be, so that it can once again be a meeting-place for the people of Knislinge.
– A lot of people come here and want to talk about old memories.
