Big fines for failing to observe driving-time regulations

Several breaches of the regulations for driving-hours per day, one driver did not get enough time to rest per 24 hours, and the tachograph was not working properly. Altogether this meant a high fine, over 172,000 crowns, for a transport firm.

Transportstyrelsen (The Swedish Transport Agency) set the fine at 172,433 crowns.

Several breaches of the regulations were found in a control of the firm. On many occasions drivers drove for longer than was permitted. In addition one driver had not had the proper amount of rest-time per day for about 45 days in less tha two months.

The Swedish Transport Agency also found deficiencies in the tachograph.

The firm should have been fined the maximum amount of 800,000 crowns by The Swedish Transport Agency. But the fine must not exceed one per cent of the firm’s turnover.
