Big blaze stopped all traffic for a week
Hässleholm is an important rail junction in the south of Sweden. The fire caused damage for more than a billion crowns. 30 people worked round the clock to deal with all the damage.
Skånetrafiken provided replacement buses.
– We’ve searched all over Sweden with a fine tooth comb. Everyone in the branch has given what help they could, says Mikael Espling, business manager for Öresundstågen at Skånetrafiken.
On average 40–60 buses a day replaced the rail traffic.
Mikael Espling believes that the disruption to traffic after the blaze is among the worst ever to hit Skånetrafiken.
– A huge number of passengers have been affected.
On 24th August all rail traffic could be resumed again.
The police are treating the fire as arson. They were unable to start their technical examination until a week after the fire, when the site of the fire had cooled down enough. A specially-trained dog and forensic technicians tried to find traces of deliberate fire-raising.
There is not much left after the fire.
– Everything is completely burnt out, a lot has just disappeared, says Staffan Persson, forensic technician.
Not even the walls are left standing.
The police are appealing to the public for more photos and films.
– Photos and films from when the fire started can help us work out where we should concentrate our search, says Staffan Persson.
