It was during the Christmas holidays that the outbreak occurred at the fire station in Kristianstad. A firefighter who stepped of his shift on the second day of Christmas had symptoms of covid-19 and received a positive test result the day after.

The management then decided that everyone in the working team would get tested for covid-19, and that they were not allowed to return to work until they had received their test results, due to the fact that they work so closely to each other.

Trots utbrottet berättar Andreas Bengtsson att deltidsbrandmän inte behövt kallas in och att man inte behövt sänka beredskapen ute i byarna.

— They reported back one after the other with test results. There were ten in service that day and all ten tested positive, says Andreas Bengtsson, rescue chief in Kristianstad municipality.

Despite the fact that the pandemic has been going on for almost two years now, the rescue service has not experienced anything like this before.
