A new legal centre will be built by Vattentornsvägen. In the building, which will be approximately 35,000 square metres (60 per cent larger than City Hall), several authorities will move in: the Police, the Public Prosecutor's Office and the National Forensic Centre (NFC).

”The guards must have a high school education, but preferably also work experience and university education”
Rickard Boström, Head of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service

– The jail that we have in Kristianstad today was built in 1976. It’s built according to old legislation. It’s old and worn out, says Rickard Boström, Head of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service.

The new legal centre will provide many new jobs. The Swedish Prison and Probation Service (jail), the Police Authority and the Public Prosecutor's Office will employ a total of 250 people.

Among other things, there will be about 150 new jobs within the police and 70-80 new jobs in the Swedish Prison and Probation Service.

– The guards must have a high school education, but preferably also work experience and university education, says Rickard Boström.

Intea AB will own the building and rent it out to the authorities. Intea's will be investing over 1.2 billion crowns. By the end of 2021, construction will begin. By 2024, the buildings will be ready.

The board in Kristianstad municipality is pleased with both the construction project and the new jobs.

– Many jobs will be created at once, which is positive. At the same time, we will have an increased state presence, says Peter Johansson (M), Municipal Councillor.

– It will be a fantastic new workplace in the centre of Kristianstad. Strategically, it’s extremely important, says Pierre Månsson (L), Municipal Councillor.

In 2024, the legal centre will be ready.
