Woman suspected of manslaughter of a child released
The woman had been detained for a week, but the suspicions against her were of the weaker degree according to Kalmar District Court.
The suspicion against her has not been strengthened during the investigation.
"She should therefore be released," said Chamber Prosecutor Jeanette Boye in a press release.
The child died during a taxi ride between Kalmar and Kristianstad, sometime between November 8th and November 9th. The woman and a man were arrested. The prosecutor requested both be detained on suspicion of murder or, in the woman's case, for infanticide. But Kalmar District Court decided to release the man. The woman was detained on suspicion of infanticide.
It is special criminal term for a mother who kills her child, often affected by a postpartum psychosis or similar. Infanticide is often punished more leniently than murder or manslaughter.
