Train accident: Boy hit by train and died. He came out on the track through an opening in the fence

There was an opening in the fence at the scene of the accident. The opening was a few metres wide.

– There is no suspicion of a crime. It's a tragic accident, says Katarina Rusin, Police Spokesperson, on Saturday morning.

The boy was enrolled at a municipal preschool. They started crisis management there on the weekend.

Kulltorps School is a construction site; there are no pupils at the school.

Bengt Olsson, Head of C4 Technology, says that it is wrong that there was an opening in the fence.

– Someone has not put the fence back up, he says.

A woman had called Trafikverket (the Swedish Transport Administration) twice and reported the opening in the fence. The second time that she called was the same day that the accident took place, the 12th of April.

It is unclear who is responsible for the fence. Whether it’s the municipality, the company that is carrying out construction work at Kulltorps School or Trafikverket.

– We still don't know what happened. Our investigation is not complete, says Camilla Hult who responsible for press issues at the Trafikverket.

– It’s very tragic, of course.

The police are investigating the incident as an accident. The opening in the fence was closed during the weekend.
