Third death in Skåne - more beds planned
On Wednesday evening, a sick elderly man died. Region Skåne will not disclose further information as a result of patient confidentiality.
– We still have a chance to limit the spread of infection. It’s what we do now which will be crucial in the near future, and for the next few years, said Regional Director Alf Jönsson at a press conference in Malmö.
The need for more ICU places will increase rapidly.
– Our most important task now is to reduce the spread of infection through several different measures, said Alf Jönsson.
Region Skåne has also sought permission from the government to transport surgical masks from China to Sweden by plane.
Mattias Waldeck, Assistant Infection Control Doctor, said that 254 people in Skåne have covid-19. Three people have died. 27 are hospitalised. Six of them are in ICU.
Most of the people who are sick are aged between 40-60, a few are over 80.
– The majority of those infected, just under 200, were diagnosed before March 15th (Update: At the press conference, Waldeck gave the wrong date). It has now been changed. . They were infected abroad. But some were infected in Sweden. There is now an indication that the infection is spreading in the community in Skåne.

Gatherings of 500 people or more are banned.
All upper secondary schools, colleges, universities and vocational colleges should preferably be closed and carrying out distance learning.
Restaurants are only allowed to serve tables and take away orders.
The Ministry for Foreign affairs has advised against non-essential travel to all countries. The recommendation is valid until April 14th, after which a new assessment will be made.
