Ten things to do in Kristianstad

Time on your hands this summer, or have you plenty to do, what with studies and work? Summer is here, the same for all of us. We have time for sunbathing and swimming when we are free. And there are so many other interesting things to see and do.
Every summer for the past 40 years there have been concerts, Musical Forays, in Tivoliparken.This season starts on Wednesday 5th June. Bring along a picnic, sit down and enjoy what is on offer.

Storks are stately birds. Come to Viby on 8th June and see this year’s young birds being ringed.

And then there’s theatre, ”Det våras för Revisorn” a lighthearted version of Gogol’s ”The Auditor” with lots of humour and music. Première 29th June.

Ramble: Linnérundan

What: Ramble round Linnérundan, about 6 km, with birdwatcher Evert Valfridsson. Don't forget to bring along binoculars and a snack. Arrangers: Ornithological Society and Studiefrämjandet.

Where: Starting-point at Naturum.

When: Sunday 2nd June, 8 am. (Also on 6th, 12th and 15th June at 8 am).

Language café

What: Language café – we chat and enjoy each other’s company.

Where: Gamlegården library.

When: Monday 3rd June, 10:30 am.

Music: Concert

What: First concert of Musikaliska Strandhugg (the ”Musical Forays” season), with Rebecka Karlsson.

Where: Tivoliparken.

When: Wednesday 5th June, 6–9 pm. Free entry.

For all the family: Festival

What: Tollarp festival, with lots of activities. Musical entertainment with Paula Wright, children’s carnival, dog exhibition, parcours, funfair, Åhus brass band and a whole lot more. Sweden’s national day celebration on 6th June too.

Where: In Tollarp.

When: Wednesday 5th June at 7 pm– Thursday 6th June at 6:30 pm. (National day celebration at 6 pm on 6th June).

Excursion: Stork Day in Viby

What: Find out more about the Stork Project, see the young storks being ringed. Arrangers: Naturskyddsföreningen, Nordöstra Skånes Fågelklubb, Storkens Vänner and Studiefrämjandet.

Where: Outside the Farm Shop at Viby.

When: Saturday 8th June at 11 am.

At the RUM-festival you can listen to visiting choirs and orchestras from different countries. Here are some members of the  ”Folklore” choir from Volokolamsk, just outside Moscow, who took part in the festival in Kristianstad a couple of years ago.

Music: RUM festival

What: RUM’s four-day music festival in Kristianstad (RUM – National Association of Young Musicians). Orchestras from several countries come to Kristianstad to take part. Concerts at various locations. Some of the orchestras will be making an appearance at the ’Musical Foray’ in the evening.

Where: Tivoliparken

When: Thursday 13th June from 7 till 9 pm. Free entry.

Outdoor activity: Canoeing

What: Learn to paddle a canoe with Friluftsfrämjandet. Suitable for all ages. Take your own picnic. Facilities for grilling. Cost: 50 crowns if you want to paddle. Enquiries to Börje Wetterlöf, 070-283 85 47. Applications to b.wetterlof@gmail.com.

Where: Lerjevallen. Meet at Timmerstugan.

When: 23rd June, 10 am–3 pm.

Theatre

What: Première for ’Det våras för Revisorn’ at the theatre at Spelplats Vinbacken. Gogol’s comedy. ’The Auditor’ has been staged all over the world – a play full of humour and music. For all ages.

Where: In Viby.

When: 29th June at 6:30 pm. The play will be performed throughout July.

Exotic dance

What: Let yourself be spellbound by the oriental music. At the workshop you can learn the basics of belly-dancing. The workshop is primarily for beginners, but there’s room for dancers with a term or so of previous experience too. Arranger: Medborgarskolan Syd. Cost: 400 crowns.

Where: The dance hall at Medborgarskolan.

When: Sunday, 30th June from 1 till 5 pm.

Football: Kristianstad FC

What: KFC men’s team versus Ljungskile.

Where: Kristianstad football arena.

When: Saturday 6th July at 4 pm.
